Frequently asked QuestionS

Acronym Key: Quit Now Indiana (QNI)

Q. Will QNI ask a participant to provide insurance information?

A. All Hoosiers ages 13 and up are eligible for free Quit Now Indiana Tobacco Treatment services. QNI does collect insurance information and encourages participants to check with their health plan and employer to learn if their insurance offers a cessation benefit. However, having commercial insurance does not determine whether participants will receive QNI services.

Q. What nicotine replacement medications are provided to QNI members? Is there a limit on the amount of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) that participants receive from the QNI?

A. Participants may be eligible, while supplies last, for free NRT (patches, gum, and/or lozenges) during each enrollment. NRT offerings vary by program and availability. Call 1-800-Quit Now for more information.

Q. What is the timeline to receive the first call from QNI once a referral from a medical professional or employer is made?

A. Participants typically receive a call within the first 24-72 hours of the referral.

Q. What is displayed on the caller ID when QNI calls?

A. This varies depending on the cell carrier. Calls from QNI often show up as “1-800-Quit Now” on caller ID but can possibly show up as “unknown number” depending on the participant’s wireless carrier.

Q. Will QNI leave a voicemail for individuals referred for services if they do not answer?

A. QNI will leave at least one voicemail out of the seven call attempts provided that a working phone number is sent with the referral.

Q. What will a referral outcome report entail? How should a provider use it?

A. Medical providers covered by HIPAA are eligible to receive outcome reports for patients referred to QNI for Tobacco Treatment services. The outcome report will inform whether the patient accepted or denied services, was unreachable, had incomplete referral data or incorrect phone number, etc. A provider can add information from the outcome report to a participant's treatment plan e.g. accepted services, progress, etc. The report can also be referred to during the participant's next treatment plan review.

Q. How often can a person be referred to QNI?

A. A patient can be referred to QNI once every 60 days. If a provider refers a participant less than 60 days since the last referral, the referral outcome will be noted as a duplicate.  If a participant has been actively enrolled in QNI programs within the last year, a referral outcome will note that the participant is already enrolled in QNI services. In this case, you may advise the patient to call in or register for an online account to continue services.

Q. How can a participant obtain a completion letter to submit for an insurance incentive?

A. QNI members can request a letter of completion from a QNI coach or access the letter on the participant online dashboard.
